Peace Day

24th November 2016

This month Loseley Fields have been learning about the value of Peace.  On Thursday 24th November we took a whole day to celebrate and embrace the meaning of Peace and how we can find this for ourselves and others.

In the morning, each class had the opportunity to spend time in our Peace Room, using meditation techniques to take the time to reflect on their own inner peace and listen to some visualisation stories in a calm, safe and relaxing environment.  Each child also had the opportunity to plant some purple crocus bulbs that were donated to us by the Rotary Club of Godalming to raise awareness of the need to eradicate Polio around the world.  Many members of the Rotary Club joined us throughout the day to help plant some of these 5000 bulbs, including the President Elect Heather Pollard.

In the afternoon, parents and members of the community were invited to join us for two Peace Celebrations with the Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 children performing dances, poems, prayers and songs – accompanied by Miss Pearce-Haydon on the piano.  The hall was decorated with ‘Footprints of Peace’ with each child in the school having drawn around their own foot and decorated it with messages of peace.  This was to remind us that every 30 seconds a life is lost to war and how we want to create a peaceful future for the children of our school.  Michael Goodridge from the Rotary Club attended our assemblies as a guest speaker and explained to the children and visitors about the symbolism of the purple crocuses and how they help to raise awareness of the campaign against polio.  After the assemblies guest were invited to plant their own bulbs and we are looking forward to seeing our star full of purple crocus bulbs coming into bloom during the Spring term.

Thank you to everyone that was able to attend on the day, for the children that took part and the staff that helped to make Peace day a wonderful success.  Please look at the pictures and videos below to have a glimpse into all of the activities that happened during the day.
