Pupil Attendance

It is your responsibility as parents to ensure that your child receives a full-time education. As a school we believe strongly that all pupils benefit from regular attendance and that any absence from school can have an adverse effect on a pupil’s academic and social development. We therefore encourage parents and carers to make it a priority that their children attend school regularly. We ask that, if at all possible, treatment sessions take place outside school hours and holidays are taken during the school holiday periods. If this is not possible we would ask that you contact the school office as soon as you are aware of the need to remove your child from school so that permission for the absence may be sought from the headteacher.

Reporting Absences
It is the parent’s responsibility to inform the school of the reason for your child’s absence as soon as possible and to provide such further information as may be required. We would ask that you telephone the school on the first day of your child’s absence from school, before 11.00am if at all possible, to explain the reason why they are unable to attend. If your child is absent from school and we have not heard from you by this time then we will telephone you to ensure you are aware of your child’s absence from school.

Unauthorised Absence
Only the school can approve a child’s absence from school. The fact that a parent has offered a note or other notification does not, of itself, oblige the school to accept that the explanation gives a valid reason for absence. An example of this would be using a normal school day for a shopping trip. This absence would be categorised as unauthorised. By law the school is required to keep individual records of unauthorised absences which are then recorded on your child’s school record.
Please always inform the school office of any possible absences in advance and obtain a permission form when necessary. We appreciate your co-operation in this matter.

From 4 September 2006-25 July 2007 the authorised absence percentage for Loseley Fields Primary School was 4.5%.  The unauthorised absence percentage for the same period was 0.5%.

Parental Contact with the School
There will be an opportunity in the Autumn term to meet your child’s class teacher to discuss your child’s progress at the beginning of the term. You will receive a full report on your child’s progress towards the end of the Spring term and have an opportunity to discuss this with your child’s class teacher and set targets for their achievement for the rest of the academic year. You will then receive a short up-date to this report and have an opportunity to meet their teacher once more towards the end of the Summer term.

However, should you feel unhappy or concerned about any aspect of your child’s education please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher or the school office and we will be happy to arrange a meeting to discuss your concerns more fully. If you feel unhappy about attending any meeting on your own please feel free to bring a partner or friend with you.

If you still feel unhappy following any meeting you have the right to consult the governing body of the school. This is usually done through a parent governor representative who will be able to bring the matter to the attention of the governing body if appropriate. The names of the governors of the school may be obtained from the school office.

We distribute regular newsletters to keep you up-to-date with important school developments.
